The correlation of ethnopolitics and security in Eastern European countries - in search of new research approaches

Objectives:
The article aims to analyze the main research paradigms used in the study of ethnopolitics and to attempt to fill the methodological research gap by proposing an original research paradigm explaining the cause-and-effect relationships between ethnopolitics and security.
Material and methods:
The interdisciplinarity of the subject matter required the selection of adequate research methods. An integral approach was used to selectively adapt the assumptions of classical research methods used in political science and security sciences. Critical literature analysis and the comparative method were important, allowing for identifying similarities and differences between the research paradigms studied.
Results:
The existing knowledge on the main research paradigms in the area of ethnopolitics was verified and integrated, and an innovative research paradigm (ethnopolitical-securitization) was proposed, showing the mechanism of the relationship between the conditions of ethnopolitics, ethnopolitics, and state security. Results were obtained for theories of political science and security science.
Conclusions:
There is a deficit of ethnopolitics research paradigms in the literature that refer to the connections between ethnopolitics and security. The originality of the new ethnopolitical-securitization paradigm is expressed in a broader understanding of ethnopolitics (conditions, relations, processes, and resources involved in these processes), showing its correlations with state security. This understanding can contribute many ideas, threads, and inspirations to formulating new paradigms. The paradigm enriches existing approaches with new elements that can serve further research on developing a model for designing and implementing ethnopolitics that helps strengthen state security.
