ABSTRACT
This article analyzes key phenomena and social processes related to the shaping of the global social space. This includes the development and specificity of global society, global civil society, and global democracy, as well as their interrelationships. The creation of a global social space creates challenges for its organization and governance, including threats related to a deficit of democratic legitimacy. The concept of globalization is ambiguous. Consequently, it is defined in many different ways. Difficulties in defining the concept of globalization stem from both the complexity of the reality to which it is applied and the popularity of the concept, a trend in its use not only in science but also beyond. From a sociological perspective, analysis of the globalization process focuses on the changes to which social relations are subject. Globalization is conceptualized in this article as a process of time and space compression. Global civil society is analyzed from both in descriptive perspective and a normative perspective. Meanwhile, the issue of global democracy is analyzed from the perspective of the democratic legitimization of actions at the supranational and global levels.
