ABSTRACT
Objectives The negative consequences of eating disorders in children are particularly distressing and dangerous. The aim of this article is to raise awareness of the problem by providing parents, caregivers, and teachers with a better understanding (based on available literature), especially the symptoms of these disorders, which manifest in various ways through distressing symptoms, both psychological and physical, and to encourage them to take preventative or rescue measures. Material and methods For the purposes of the study, materials from the field of child psychology, paediatrics, child pathopsychology, dietetics, international human rights law, and children's rights were used. Results Children suffering from eating disorders typically experience a variety of psychological problems stemming from difficulties establishing healthy interpersonal relationships. This often leads to intense pressure to meet expectations and achieve goals. They readily use food as a means of regulating their emotions. However, left untreated, these disorders can lead to health problems. Therefore, this issue requires constant vigilance and up-to-date information from parents and educators. Conclusions The diagnosis of an eating disorder is not always easy to make, and subsequent therapy is usually a long and complex process, as the symptoms associated with it are both psychological and somatic. Fortunately, treatment is possible, but it requires the involvement of specialists in various fields; Usually, the help of a psychiatrist and dietician is enough. By shaping a food culture that partly reflects the functioning of individuals in society, the institutions and institutions of that society can be supported and regulated by (properly followed) legal provisions.
